Hot Covers Monday - January 11, 2010 and a Contest

I gotta admit I'm one to judge a book by its cover, and I often buy certain books just for their hot or interesting cover art. Here's one that really caught my eye recently, A Date With Mr. Wonderful by Lynn LaFleur. I love his expression---total smoke, he only has eyes for her.

Here's a blurb for you:

Second in the Lavender Lace series.

A shopping spree at Lavender Lace, a lingerie store owned by Celtic goddess Ashlyn, thrills Twyla Gardiner, who has trouble finding sexy lingerie to fit her tall, voluptuous body. But who will get to appreciate that lacy red bra and risqué thong?

Twyla’s friends seem determined to set her up with new men every week. When her best friend arranges yet another blind date with a man she swears is Mr. Wonderful, Twyla decides she can’t go through another disappointment. She escapes to a favorite hideaway spa.

Daniel LaFevers is new in the Seattle area and hasn’t had the chance to meet many women. One look at the voluptuous raven-haired beauty sitting in the bar of the locals’ favorite hideaway and Daniel knows he has to get to know her better.

When Twyla invites Daniel to her room for an evening of unforgettable passion, will this be another in a long line of disappointments, or a date with Mr. Wonderful?

The first in this series is just as hot, btw, and it's titled Business and Pleasure. Both books are currently available.

As for the CONTEST, Lynn is generously offering a free download to one random commenter here on today's Hot Covers Monday post, so be sure and share your thoughts! Contest ends...hmm, who knows? But I'll post the winner here when the time comes. :)

A great cover can catch my eye and get me reading an excerpt, just as much as a bad cover can be a total turn off, which is really unfortunate. With so many books to choose from, I've probably passed on some great stories by not looking past an unappealing cover.

Lynn has really been blessed by the cover Gods, a couple more of my favorites:

Turning Point
Capsized
A Wish Granted

Exactly, Cathy! Sometimes we authors don't get what we consider to be great covers, and though you'd think we'd get more say in the decisions, usually there's not much we can do about it. :(

I've done the same---passed on books where the cover doesn't grab me, which is unfortunate like you say, because we probably are missing out on some awesome stories.

Yes, you're right, Lynn's been blessed with the cover gods! And she's a wonderful lady and an excellent writer to boot.

Thanks again for stopping by and chatting. :)

Hubba hubba! I think I love those covers that feature a woman's gorgeous back--it's a sexy and classy kind of photo. And yes, a great cover will make me pick up a book, but I generally won't buy based on just the cover. The blurb and flipping through have to confirm that it'd be something I want to read. Conversely, a bad cover doesn't mean I wouldn't buy it; just that I'd be unlikely to pick it up at the store (except maybe to see what kind of book would have a cover like *that*!) :)

Thanks for the contest, Titania!

Hey, flchen1! I definitely agree with that. A cover with a woman's sexy back is very classy. In fact, Lynn has a couple others like that I believe, including the 1st in this Lavender Lace series.

Great to have you stop in! :)

Wow, love the covers Lynn:)
I think a good cover can only enhance a book.
An excerpt is usually the deciding factor for me.
If a book isn't at least passibly well written (definitly NOT yours or Titania's)the writer will have a problem attracting me no matter how good the covers are.

Hi there, Mindy! Thanks for your thoughts and your kind words about my books. :D

An excerpt really clenches it for me, too. The cover, though, is usually what reels me in first because I'm such a visual person. And it does, as you say, really enhance the book. Good to *see* you here, Mindy! :-)

The blurb about the book is usually the deciding factor on whether or not I buy a book, but a good cover can make me take a look at the book to even read the blurb.

Lynn - Reading your books makes me blush, so we're even. heehee

Beth - Hiya, thanks for your comment! I'm kind of the same way. A good cover draws me in, a tempting excerpt has me buying.

Regina - Hey there, thanks for the blog link and for swinging by to say howdy. Mmmmwah!
